Johnny is still following Dubya.

It has been reported is the news, that our 'esteemed' PM wishes to have a four year term between elections. The reason given is, the government does not have enough time with a three year term to accomplish all they wish to. This may or may not be a valid arguement. Excuse me if I seem cynical, but it seems more a case of following the yanks as they have a four year term of office for the president, after each election. This would be OK for us to emulate, only, if after two terms in office they were forced to fade into the background, and not be allowed to seek office again. We then might be able to elect some people who really have the good of the country and it's inhabitants, uppermost in their policies. The present system is seriously flawed, in that it allows one party to be in office too long, and they do not always want to run the country for the good of the people. We need to have fresh ideas coming more often. Some of them might be good for us. At least after two terms, we could boot them out, so they don't think they own the place.

Have to disagree with you there mum. The biggest flaw with our government is that they can call an election pretty much whenever they want. Fixed terms of three or four years would be much better. Haven't we been crying out for years not to be subjected to an election when it suits the governing party?

The current system doesn't allow them to be there for too long as it is the voters who put them there. If you're not happy vote for someone else.

The President of the USA can only be elected to two terms but members of the Administration can serve as long as they are chosen. How long has Alan Greenspan been there?

I think fixed terms would be a step forward.

If you mean by fixed terms, that they would not be able to call an election untill just before the four years is up, then I agree with you. But four years or ten years, it doesn't mean they will get any more done than they already do. The voters need to be more interested in what is happening and who they elect. Most of them are too passive and blase. They only complain when their little world has been threatened, instead of using their votes wisely.

Hullo, Christian. I tried to reply to you comment, but had no luck. Hope tis gets the results I want. I thank you for your comments, they are much appreciated. Magnetic therapy does not work for me, nor do pain killers much.
Mores the pity.
